I wish you wouldn't be so snippy. We are dealing with a serious inability of generally bright people to understand Syrian reality. When you wrote, "I don't know whether they [the FSA] are made up largely by foreign fighters, but I do find the suspicion plausible", I really marveled at the level of ignorance this demonstrated. Anybody who reads the NY Times on a regular basis knows that the FSA is the armed group made up exclusively of Syrians while al-Nusrah Front and the Al-Qaeda affiliate are made up of many foreign fighters, the exact number it is of course not easy to determine. It would be a little like me telling PEN-L that the UAW is largely made up of Sudanese refugees or that the planet Earth revolves around Mercury. But don't worry. Tomorrow I am going to post a reading list to get people exactly like you up to speed on Syria.
