Although I have Raghu blocked and generally don't pay attention to libertarians (a disorder I outgrew in 1961), the two men touch upon a point that is interesting. A while back I was preoccupied with the capitalist logic of institutions like Bard College, the New School, Columbia University and NYU. They like many other universities have been expanding in a way that suggests parallels with for-profit institutions, including Microsoft or Exxon-Mobil. Why did Bard feel the need to set up satellite campuses all across the globe? It is a question I don't have an answer to as yet. In any case, nonprofit does not equate to being in the interests of humanity at large. For example, NYU's expansion in Abu Dhabi has been on the backs of slave labor while cancer hospitals, either for profit or for nonprofit as the NYT article indicates, have been at the expense of patients. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
