At the end of World War Two, the Soviet Union - which did most of the fighting and dying - had advanced to crush the Nazi empire: Germany and the regions between Germany and the Soviet Union. The war had originated in large part by German designs on the Soviet Union, encouraged by appeasers in the West. But socialism survived, and the capitalist powers were still implacably set on destroying it. So, 1. The U.S. imperialists, with their British partners, started the Cold War and created NATO. or 2. The U.S. and the Soviet Union are both to blame for the Cold War. or 3. The Soviet Union started the Cold War.
