I was intrigued by the name Tulsi, which is a very "Hindu" name. Tulsi being holy basil used in Hindu rituals. Her sister also has a very "Hindu" name. So I speculated that there could be a hippie connection. I was wrong. Wikipedia has the details. Her father was multi-religious, following some aspects of Hinduism and her mother was a practicing Hindu though of Euro-American heritage. That explains her affinity with the BJP, almost like a born-again Hindu, which the lunatics in India are trying to push through fear, intimidation, violence, and hopelessly bizarre history.
