I think you mean "US found...".

Cronkite said Eisenhower "took the heat" for the missile gap even
though he knew it was not true because he could not expose the facts,
which would inevitably point to the U-2 as the means of gathering
them.

So, how does he know Eisenhower didn't want the facts to be hidden and
just went along with it?  Cronkite made it sound as if Eisenhower were
just being a stand-up guy and taking one on the chin "for the good of
the country".  What a load of baloney.  If Eisenhower knew and chose
to conceal it from the country, he was a liar, period.  It's amazing
how "liberals" such as Cronkite are revered for what is in fact
not-too subtle support of empire while the crude right wing, with
their venomous excesses, does far more damage to it in the long run.
