Either Heny Liu or someone else on this list mentioned that in disclosed documents Israeli foreign affairs sent repreated requests to the US state dept asking the US government to do whatever possible to split the confederation between Egypt and Syria, then known as the United Arab Republic even if it had to back the anti arabist Kassim regime, which was then allied with the communist party of Iraq. I do not expect many to know about this issue but it is rather crucial because what it tells us is that during the cold war the US was aware that communist party of Iraq was a sectarian party aloof and distant from the broader mass base, meaning that it is rather more like a cult with no prospects or significant contrbutions to world working class movements. And in a broader context this shows that there was little communism in communist parties of the soviet type evolving in peripheral formations experiencing continuously deep crisis.
