Indeed. I'm pretty sure that many of them, in Michael's metaphor, know precisely where the switch is and are very carefully avoiding pressing it. That's why I've always insisted they were an extremely principled party: they would _much_ rather lose than violate their principles of loyalty to capital. My guess is that u.s. troops will remain in Iraq _at least_ until the next Republican administration _after_ the next DP administration -- i.e. 2013 at the earliest, assuming a DP victory in 2008 and an RP victory in 2112.
