It seems to me that a true theocracy is the United States, not Iran.
I love this kind of postmodernist irony. It comes from steeping oneself in Foucault, I gather.
Over there, the ruling clerics think rationally in a fashion recommended by secular economists and advocate scientific research (cf. "Iran, 10th country to produce embryonic human stem cell," 3 September 2006, <http://www.payvand.com/news/03/sep/1010.html>) and economic development.
Just what the workers of Iran need, rational economic development. What this means is anybody's guess, especially in light of the fact that Iran is ranked number 99 in the world in terms of Human Development Indicators according to the UN (Albania is 72nd.). Of the most interest is its GDP/HDI indicator that shows the relationship between wealth produced and living standards. Iran has a -29, while Cuba is +40. Of course, everybody knows that Iran is in bad shape because imperialism is trying to destroy it--unlike Cuba.
