Maybe, but there are a couple of major differences.  At no point, did
"western leftist" become the kind of faddish term that would be adopted by
every Republican-voting academic pseudo-Marxist.  (One of my nightmares from
graduate student days was that all of my professors and peers who had no
clue as to what Marxism was suddenly decided that they were Marxists and
began using the terminology.)

Then, too, "postmodern" implies nothing but after/behind the modern, while
"Western leftist" does have...well, a transgressive positionality in its
non-otherness.  :-)
