no, I'm talking about greedy people who are accumulating power and
wealth. I know that "capitalist" seems like a sufficient word, but I'm
looking for something to contrast with _conservative_ "vested
interests."

Michael Perelman's "naked" interest is good, as in "naked
self-interest." But those involved in naked self-interest drape
themselves with self-serving public-spirited rhetoric just as much as
the conservative versted interests do.

Subject: [PEN-L] query: the opposite of a "vested interest"

a "vested interest" refers to some individual or organization that
defends its power and privilege. What's the opposite of this, i.e., a
group that aims to extend its power and privilege? so far, all I can
think of is "aggressive interest." (or maybe a "suited interest,"
including not only the vest but the jacket and the pants?)

BTW, I avoid the term "special interest" because that presumes the
existence of a general interest.
