maybe if protest marches were moer like parties?
A funny thing is that a New Year's Eve party at the Times Square isn't
very fun -- you have to show up six hours early to get into good
spots, to go through security check, to stay corralled into pens,
_and_ you aren't allowed to drink in public -- and people still show
up:
<blockquote>Partygoers poured into Times Square long before the clock
struck midnight to snag prime viewing spots. They cheered and joked as
the celebration began around 6 p.m., and some practiced several
countdowns to 2007 long before the actual hour.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Police were still compiling reports early Monday from the celebration,
which had gone on amid tight security. Spectators passed through
police checkpoints; no big bags or backpacks were permitted and
bomb-sniffing dogs roamed the crowd.
Public drinking was banned, and visitors were herded into a series of
viewing pens that prevented them from bar-hopping. (Associated Press,

2007 in Times Square,"

But Hizballah supporters know how to combine a party with a protest!
"Fireworks lit up the sky in Lebanon above a tent camp erected by
Hezbollah for an ongoing protest to force the resignation of Prime
Minister Fouad Siniora" (Sergey Ponomarev/Associated Press):
