I recently mentioned a Foreign Affairs article "A New Deal For
Globalization" (July/August 2007) which proposed keeping the asserted
benefits from globalization flowing by cutting the FICA tax so as to
mollify the lower paid and thus reduce the backlash against "free
trade."

Today one of the authors of that article, Matthew J. Slaughter of the
Tuck Biz school at Dartmouth has an Op Ed in the WSJ. In it he
proposes a question for tonight's Democratic Presidential candidates'
debate in New Hampshire. After a premise he asks "How will you
craft an American economic policy that both allows greater
globalization and also spreads its gains as widely as possible?"

It is a redistribution of income question from a George Bush member
of the ouncil of Eonomic Advisors. We know his proposal. Anybody else?

Either assuming protecting the path toward greater globalization or not.
