The best* approach I've seen so far is to add version numbers to names, as does perl5i--although you could add ::Stable or ::Development or ::Ancient::For::RHEL as suffixes easily enough. What would the interface look like in various contexts for selecting branches? -- c [*] meaning "works pretty well with minimal changes to other things".
