I bet that your ISP uses Activestate perl 5.6??

If so, tell him to downgrade to the Activestate build 522, that is the latest
build of the 5.003 (or whatever it was) perl version. There is a crude bug in
5.6 that Activestate has not fixed yet, but they say that they will address
this is build 619 (current is 618).

For now, the only safe thing is using the 522 build.
