Sorry, then, I don't know. I'd love to get Perl and up playing
with my MIDI gear, but just haven't had the time. I'm thinking
about writing a PhD thesis on computer-created improvised music,
and will probably use Perl for a bit of that, but there does
seem to be very little around: presumably speed is an issue.
You could always try mailing the module authors directly: they
may have some unreleased code/ideas you can use? If not, try
comp.lang.perl.*.
