You don't beneficially make Perl any more anything by ghettoizing its useful systems functionality. You certainly don't make it more "portable". I still can't use any of my myriad useful systems hackery script if I try to run them on CP/M, and you aren't going to change that one whit. So what if it's in a ghetto hole?
