Okay, ground truth is POD, with HTML, PDF, wiki and Padre
documentation autogenerated from that.

One big issue - inline images. POD explicitly doesn't have a tag, and
for the PDL books with images that accompany the examples, I'd like to
at least have a text placeholder that can be autolinked when
generating the HTML documentation or a PDF book, or wiki page.
Ideally, one place in the PDL tree that has images tucked away and
linkable on a local install/wiki page.

My suggestion: a tag such as:

PDL_image: relative::path::pgplot_example1.jpg

..in the POD documents so that it fails gracefully on a terminal, but
has the metainfo for more graphical displays.

Secondly, the wiki is GOOD for relatively dynamic documents -
specifically the installations of PDL. It is definitely useful for
that, and possibly a Hints and Tips page. Every six months, schlep it
into the POD.

Thoughts?
