Hi Chris: I don't think that PLplot support is going away
(PDL::Graphics::PLplot still supports the latest plplot release), but
Alan's email states that since PDL::Graphics::PLplot is behind in
supporting recent API changes, he's pulling it out of the standard
test suite for plplot. I'm going to try to pull it back into compliance
with the full API.
As to your second question, PDL::Graphics::PLplot does make available
the direct plplot library calls. The one caveat is that the argument
order may be changed due to the fact that PDL::PP calls must put all
non-PDL arguments (OtherPars) at the end of the call list.

Doug

That is good news. I am getting started on the

to work with.
Doug, do you make available the direct plplot
library calls in PDL::Graphics::PLplot? I can
help some with this once I get PLplot working
on cygwin and with PDL.
Cheers,
Chris

As of revision 11696 I have disabled Perl/PDL examples in tests by
default as a signal that Perl/PDL is a language that no longer
completely supports PLplot.
The reason for this change is that the external PDL::Graphics::PLplot
project is missing too much of the new PLplot functionality. For
example, according to the Changes file at
http://search.cpan.org/~dhunt/PDL-Graphics-PLplot-0.52, the last
attempt to update the PDL::Graphics::PLplot to be consistent with new
PLplot API was for PDL-Graphics-PLplot-0.46 which was released more
than two years ago.
I would be happy to reinstate the Perl/PDL tests by default and also
help a bit with the necessary Perl/PDL example propagation to obtain
consistency with our C examples results once PDL::Graphics::PLplot has
been updated to include the new PLplot API that has been developed
over the last couple of years.
