Hi Mark. Yes to install anything on Ubuntu you must use the `sudo apt-get install` if installing from the command line. Both Synaptic and Software Center will request your admin password if you do it from the gui.

I usually build PDL on Ubuntu , using "the latest version of PDL" option, at the http://pdl.perl.org webpage .. recently last night I tried to build it and I found all "apt-get Install " functions were not working ??? I wonder does that have to do with choosing [sudo] as method of installation instead of [local::lib], which I doubt , Yet the command line was saying that it could not find those links no more I wonder if someone can confirm this for me ...
