What about cutting them grapes and tomatoes in half before placing them out? Then they would not roll??? I would do a “test” on berries to see which ones really roll? Just a thought. JTV

The current guidelines do not permit “rolling foods” such as grapes, berries, and cherry tomatoes, as we believe these foods become an IPM concern if they make their way into a crevice or under a permanent fixture. The registration department is now getting pushback from the events team on this point and have been asked if they can remove this rule to open up catering options. In doing some online research, I haven’t found other museum-specific catering guidelines that specifically prohibit “rolling foods” (aside from popcorn which we also do not allow). I am wondering if you have any language/rules/insight at your institution that could either help the registration department encourage the events team to keep the no “rolling foods” rule, or persuade us to acquiesce to a change in policy.
