at least part of this is that the active cursor gets plonked in the search box when Google is the home page, so if someone opens a browser and starts typing it will automatically go into the search box.

I've explained things to them a few times, but they just look puzzled and go back to Google again. If it works, don't knock it.

why take two steps to get to a page when one will do :-)

I'm not certain Google will always throw up the page either, in fact it won't if it isn't indexed. So it doesn't work, and I'm knocking it !

This may explain why when I ask people to go to a certain page over the phone they say they can't get to it - they're probably searching for it instead of going to the address. More dumbing down.
