[ADMIN] data restore

Are there limits to how much can be restored using the \i switch is psql? I have been doing dumps for some time now using copy commands instead of inserts. I then go in to psql to run my backup script using \i. I am now having issues all of a sudden with it hanging. Maybe I ought to attempt the dump and restore another way?
