On the one hand, we only need approximately-correct results in that code. On the other, the result is fed to convert_string_to_scalar(), which has a rather naive idea that it's dealing with ASCII text. I've seen at least some strxfrm output that isn't even vaguely textual-looking. regards, tom lane
