Well to me, it is to acknowledge active community members which can be used as a tool for advocacy. A list that contains 3000 names does no one any good, we might as well just dump the mailing list subscribers :). However a reasonably managed list that shows strength in not only numbers but a solid base of frequent contributors, show duration and maturity within the project. Sincerely, Joshua D.
