The end result wouldn't have enough in the *core* module to warrant a split-dist anymore, since all of what would be left would be what is required for a build ...
I know some of this is symantic but I think it would be better to have:
postgresql-WTKS-8.0.2.tar.gz postgresql-core-8.0.2.tar.gz postgresql-plphp postgresql-plperl
etc...
