I'm running 8.0.94 (haven't seen a chaneel for any newer release on RHN) on a Dell C400 and have the Linksys WPC11 v3.0 802.11b card. The orinoco_cs driver seems to mostly work. If I use all default settings, I can associate with APs without WEP who broadcast their SSID. Even then, the wireless link seems to go down periodically (pinging the gateway/AP yield destination unreachable).

I was using the RPMs from http://prism2.unixguru.raleigh.nc.us/rh80/ with Psyche, but haven't been able to build them on Phoebe. I didn't have these problems with those RPMs.

What are other people using to support this card in Phoebe (of any release)?

Justin,

I have one of these cards (wpc11 v3) which I use on a dell c800. In my experience, the orinoco_cs driver is not reliable. Instead, I use the linux-wlan driver, built from source on both phoebe and psyche, with excellent results.

You are right about the rpms on http://prism2.unixguru.raleigh.nc.us/rh80/ -- they do not work on phoebe. I built linux-wlan from source (ftp://ftp.linux-wlan.org/pub/linux-wlan-ng/linux-wlan-ng-0.1.16-pre9.tar.gz). To build linux-wlan you will need to have the kernel source installed as well, see ftp://ftp.linux-wlan.org/pub/linux-wlan-ng/README for instructions.

Guess I'll have to take a look at that

If you prefer to install by rpm, you might be able to rebuild the src.rpm from http://prism2.unixguru.raleigh.nc.us/rh80/. To rebuild the src.rpm I think you will need to have the RH kernel-source rpm (for the kernel you use) installed. Good luck,
Larry

the build fails.
