Much like ther stuff they have included like xine, it gets deled in favour of MPlayer because of the far more choices it gives.
Sorry if this is offtopic, but have you looked at xine lately? I had been running ogle as well as mplayer for various multimedia formats: ogle for dvds, mplayer for everything else - xine was too temperamental and limited.
The latest xine is quite nice - it's so nice that I haven't fired up ogle or mplayer lately - and frankly, at this point mplayer looks like a step backwards...
