Starr phonographs were made by the Starr Piano Company of Richmond, Indiana.
This is the same company that produced Gennett Records which were famous for
their line of 'race' records that featured some of the hottest jazz of that
time period. This is significant since jazz was largely
misunderstood/under-recorded by the big WASP-y companies (i.e. Victor) of the
day. Much of the Starr-Gennett factory remains standing, and a local
historical organization is preserving it and the company's recorded legacy. I
believe the link is www.starr-gennett.org. Your phonograph was produced ca.
1914-1924. I can't speak to specific value (much depends upon model,
condition, etc., but probably around $300 give or take. They are not
particularly rare. John M

I am interested in finding out more about a Starr phonograph. The serial
number is 81952 and has the writing "silver grain spruce singing throat of
Starr phonograph". Has anyone heard of this model and know about its age,
value etc?

Thanks in advance.........

Hello

As threatened, a page to present an overview of Zonophone models. I got the
pic of the Black Zonophone, which I think is very smart. I hope that the
Company history is accurate, & would welcome corrections if there are
inaccuracies.

The unknown (No.1) I have seen many times but don't know which model it is
(don't laugh), and the No.2 may be a bit more uncommon.

Any other photo's with descriptions are much appreciated

its at www.zonophone.netfirms.com

thanks

Robert
