[PHP-DB] Outgoing mail problem.

Friends,

I have a RedHat 7.3. I am having problems to send email. I know, I must config the php.ini. What are the configurations, that i need to setup?
My php.ini has an smtp entry, but no sendmail or qmail is running on the local machine. Do I have to have one running? I wish I did not have to do it. Any other way to fix this issue?
