Why don't you just add a simple check in the CLI code to exec() the CGI binary if it is called as a CGI? if(getenv("GATEWAY_INTERFACE") != NULL) execv("/path/to/php-cgi", argv); or something. Call it a transition path until people get used to using php-cgi. I've been reading arguments on this very topic for weeks now. I would hate to see this delay the release of 4.3 any further.
