Try this:
<input type="checkbox" name="sports[]" value="Baseball">
<input type="checkbox" name="sports[]" value="Basketball">
<input type="checkbox" name="sports[]" value="Football">
<input type="checkbox" name="sports[]" value="Handballball">
then after submission, you could do the dump, or
foreach ($_POST["sports"] as $val)
echo $val;
