I'm sorry to hear that. You could use one of the million ASP meters but then you have to use IE on winblows which may or may not be an issue for you.
Cross compatibility would also be solved if this was done by PHP. Maybe someone at PHP will answer our prayers and include a patch for this function in 4.4.
