Hi John You *can* control on a a page-by-page basis as i'm doing now. I have some pages admin pages that are getting a lot of hits and i'm using the compression to reduce them from 52K to 7K and 153K to 17K!
The majority of the users are accessing via 56K modem/ISDN so i'm willing to trade a tiny bit of cpu usage on a lightly loaded machine and save a lot of bandwidth in the process. Your customers may have access to T1 lines so won't see the difference, however my 56K customers noticed the difference without me even telling them about it.
