This syntax fixes the syntax error..

if ($update_type == update_Williams) {
mysql_query("INSERT INTO events_Williams ('user', 'detaildesc', 'index',
'reference', 'date_added') VALUES \'$cookiewho\',
\'$add_Williams\',\'\',\'$row_num\',\'$last_update\'", $sql4)
        or print mysql_error();
        }

this is the output
You have an error in your SQL syntax near ''user', 'detaildesc', 'index',
'reference', 'date_added') VALUES \'sgaas-wil\', ' at line 1
