You didn't mention anything about your setup so we can only
guess.
I am guessing that you are running Windows and you opened the PHP file from
windows explorer. There is a dialog box that comes that allows you to choose
an application to use to open the file. This dialog box has a checkbox with
some text like "Always use this application to open this file type" and I am
guessing that you left it checked.
Open Windows Explorer then click "tools" "folder options" "file types" then
find "PHP" and "change" the application back to what it was before you
changed it to "notepad.exe".
