Hi folks, A few of us have been discussing this topic (on IRC) periodically for a while with a little bit of a TODO on the wiki[1]. This mail is going out to hopefully reach a wider audience and get some helpful discussion going (and maybe even some decisions?).
Please take a minute to review the section entitled "Similar methods" on the wiki page and then, if you have any feedback, reply here. It would be nice to get this particular issue (or it may turn into a non-issue after discussion) sorted so that we can push ahead with the remaining undocumented portions of the SPL (still roughly a third of the library).
