Do you mean File>Open...? Because that's meant for opening project
files. (Perhaps this could be made more clear.)

Or do you mean importing clips? If can't import a clip, that probably
means you don't have a required gstreamer plugin. On Fedora, you can get
a list of availbable plugins by running 'yum list gst*'. If you want to
use encumbered formats, you may need to add a third part repo. On
Fedora, RPMFusion would be an example.
