I have done that, some 108 packages of 283 mb (I am using ubuntu 9.04)


Please note that it is more easy to use the Pan newsreader (my choice):

Please reply to the "gmane.comp.video.pitivi.general" group.

Best to install "Pan" newsreader and add the "news.gmane.org" news server 
(Edit - Edit News Servers).

Then subscribe to: "gmane.comp.video.pitivi.general" group

Then when you send your first post/followup to the group you will receive 
an e-mail asking you to confirm by replying to the mail that you are you.

You need to go to Pan - Edit - Edit Posting Profiles and add your e-mail 
address first also.
