good morning pt, I was supposed to get the tilt table test (TTT).
when i had my gamma knife procedure done my bp and heart rate bottomed out x3 while they were attaching the head gear. forget what the bp was but the heart rate was 20 bpm. anyway they wanted me to get the TTT to see if i had what they call a vaso-vascular episode (forgive spelling but if you search for it you can read all about it) basically its when you are subjected to more than normal stress the blood vessels in your legs expand rapidly ( some chemical is released to cause this) and all your blood pools in your legs causing you heart rate and bp to bottom out. Hence you either pass out or feel like your going to. Also after and episode you feel very tired for a extended period of time (something like 24 hrs.)
IF you have this it is not supposed to be fatal ( however i have read of one or two cases were it was ) . They say to lie down when you feel it starting and you can prevent them. Also fasting can cause them. DONT KNOW that this is why they want you to do this test but might be something to ask. hope this helps ....pete |
