I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour last August. It was confirmed that it is causing Acromegaly in March, next week I am having the transphenoidal surgery to remove it. My surgeon does not use the endoscopic approach, which I gather is used more oftenly now. Because there is carotid artery involvement, she figures about a 50% chance she will be able to remove it all.
So, what can I expect from the surgery? Will some of the symptoms go away within days? Will I have to go through more hormonal testing afterwards? What do I have to look forward to in the near future (1-2 months)?
I have a lot of joint/muscle pain. Will it go away?
Once one has acromegaly, does one have it forever or is it gone once the tumour is removed?
I know, lots of questions.
I am 53, female, and, yes, somewhat scared.
