Jen: I was diagnosed last year with a microadenoma (prolactinoma). Micro
because of its size: 7mm x 8mm x 7mm. I don't remember exactly what my
prolactin level was, but I believe it was around 67. I nursed my little one
for two years but never thought it was abnormal if I continued to produce some
milk. My periods had been gone, but I was not worried as I had a coil that
made my mensies go away. The way to diagnosed it via MRI. So, either your
gynecologist or your primary care physician should request the MRI. I was
referred to the neurosurgeon but he referred me to an endocrinologist. My
endocrinologist approach was first treatment, second radiation and third (last
resort) surgery. I was put on bromocriptine and I almost stop functioning. I
barely made it to work. The reason, my normal blood pressure was low so
bromocriptine helped lower further my blood pressure. I was switched to
cabergoline (a very expensive med). Thank goodness I have health insurance.
I'm almost back to normal but haven't taken the second MRI to see if the meds
have worked or not. I know you had blurred vision which is one of the symptoms
of the macroadenomas. I have not had blurred vision. Again, the protocol the
endocrino will follow depends on him/her exclusively.
