My 76 yr. old Mom is on cabergoline trying to shrink a macroprolactinoma. She
is having the dizzyness and nausea and insomnia side effects and is quite
miserable on some days and feels decent on some days. Seems like she's having
more and more miserable days the longer she takes cabergoline. The thing that
has her worried is she has spells where her heart starts beating very rapidly
and she feels shaky inside and out. Her doctor kind of pooh-poohs her worries
about her heart acting up and told her to just come back in 6 months for an
MRI. I have read in a couple of different places about cabergoline effecting
heart valves, especially when taken at higher dosages for Parkinson's. She
already has leaky valves, and the doctor says most people her age have leaky
valves. I'm wondering if she should be monitored more closely while she is
taking this medication. Like have periodic checks of her heart, respiratory
system, etc. Do other patients just get turned loose for 6 mos., like that?
or are they monitored more closely? I just don't know whether to raise a stink
with her doctor, or not. Thanks for helping a newbie.
