Hi, I have high Gh and normal to very low IGF-1. According to some of my
IGF-1's, I am a candidate for GH injections. I am aware of perhaps 2 others in
my situation. I am with Minnie on this, if your situation is at all rare, then
you must go to physicians who are capable of recognizing that not everything
fits into a formula. I use the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test as well as 24hr.
Growth Hormone to check my status. Please be aware that Growth Hormone has a 20
minute half life, and if not frozen within the 20 minute window, the blood
sample is inaccurate and worthless. I am in Colorado and of the 3 OGTT's I had
done, only one was done correctly. I see Dr. Friedman in Los Angeles. He gets
it. There are reasons other than acromegaly for elevated GH and low IGF-1. Most
are associated with extreme dieting, i.e anorexias, malabsortion of nutrients,
liver disease or failure and kidney disease. These have been ruled out for me.
Another, not well known test for down the road might be Growth Hormone
Releasing Hormone, however; even with this test, IGF-1 will usually be
elevated. If you find anything out, please post to this board as I can use any
insights you may have gained. In my case we have not found a tumor and I am on
medication. Also, it never matters how many doctors your husband has seen,
only the qualtity of their care matters. Jean in Colorado
