Interesting. I'm pretty sure that at one point JavaFX required Java 6 - I remember trying to run some demos (via JNLP) and being told that I needed Java 6 (at the time, it wasn't available for OS X).

There are still a few mentions of it here and there, but the official Sun docs on the subject appear to be gone.

I can't say, I don't have access to a Mac currently. And FAQ is actually outdated since JavaFX is now also supported on Linux...
