I think it is a sign of a developing community. You can't assume everybody knows everything from the history of the project. Even reading the whole site won't create such a collective knowledge. It is something that needs to grow, unless you know how to export your brain dump to SVN, and have all committers svn import it :)

I also think that the tradeoffs for creating your own collection API is made on more than just what is noted or can be captured in the FAQ. Until everybody has at least your understanding of Pivot, you'll need to be prepared for getting similar questions in the future.
