Be that as it may, there is a huge benefit to going through the normal process. OpenAL, being a relatively core component for a system, could benefit hugely from going through an ARC review, etc. Personally, I'd like to see it become a *standard* part of OpenSolaris, much like OpenGL. While Debian and others have a very open process, it does lead to throwing everything but the kitchen sink in, and the integration isn't as good as it often could be.
