You say "their system" like it's guaranteed that they have one... at the 
moment, for instance, I have no dedicated build systems.  I use only 
shared systems on which I do not have root access.  It'd have to be 
possible and convenient for developers to create and destroy their own 
depot instances.

That seems more practical, and easier to transition to.

Thanks.  I think you've answered my question:  you're aware of the 
problem, and there's no clear solution yet.  Sounds like we stick with 
SVR4 for now.
