Could you add a comment to LockFile.lock() indicating that it happens to represent the file locking protocol used for /etc/passwd and friends, and if any changes to the implementation are made that deviate from what's currently there, the protocol should be reimplemented in cfgfiles, as it's intended to interoperate with the passwd command.
