can't have /opt on its own filesystem and expect things to work

It must have worked at one time because obviously the original
machine had successfully been updated to b134. For those with
space constrained boot disks, are there any plans to support /opt
on a separate filesystem? Shades of the old /var/pkg discussion :-)


Having /opt on a separate dataset can work, as we have systems that were originally installed that way under 2008.05 when we did create that separate dataset, and they continue to be upgradeable today (I'm writing this on one of them that's running 151a). However, there's probably some subtlety of the dataset properties that isn't set up in those who've done it by hand. We don't consider this a supported configuration at present because we're not formally testing against it, but as we work to improve the dataset layout for S11 I'm sure we'll revisit.
