You're running into
2707 directory salvage doesn't deal with special files well
which is fixed in S11U1 and in an S11 SRU (as 7104872).
Without that fix, you'll need to remove vold-request manually prior to
package removal (upgrade won't run into this problem unless the new version
of the package has gotten rid of /etc/vx).
